Suffolk Constabulary is reminding motorists to be aware of the one-way
system in effect in Angel Lane, Woodbridge.
Angel Lane became a one-way street on October 3rd 2009, with vehicles prohibited from entering Angel Lane from Theatre Street.
Motorists ignoring the regulation are causing traffic problems in the town.
PC Victoria Gilmore of the Woodbridge and District Safer Neighbourhood Team commented “It is very important that motorists in Woodbridge are aware of the one-way system that has been officially in place now for nearly three months, after an eighteen-month experimental period.
Local residents have found that the reduced number of vehicles using Angel Lane as a result of the regulation has improved road safety in the area. Some motorists are still ignoring the regulation, however, causing problems for both pedestrians and motorists.”
Contributing to the problem is the fact that satellite navigation systems have not been updated to display this information, so are sending drivers in the wrong direction.
Angie Rapley, Sub Team Leader, Integrated Transport (East) for Suffolk County Council said “As a result of the continuing problem of motorists travelling in the wrong direction on Angel Lane, we are planning to build a wider pavement at the top of the hill, so that the ‘no entry’ sign can be moved closer to the junction and is more visible. Also, the ‘no left turn’ sign on Theatre Street is to be moved closer to the junction to make the restriction more obvious. Work is scheduled to start on the 25th January 2010 for 2 weeks.”
