2 December 2009
The shop windows of Woodbridge were closely inspected on Tuesday 1 December by a team of judges looking for the top three window displays.
Scott Matheson-Barr from Gobbitt & Kirby Estate Agents started this shop window competition nine years ago and provides the winner with a case of wine and an engraved shield that they keep for the year.
Julian Evans from the EADT has recently joined the judging team and arranges for the winner to have a free advert in the EADT. Marion Wells, Woodbridge Town Centre Co-ordinator, is the third judge who alerts the shop keepers to the judging time and prizes.
After more than an hour looking at the wide range of window displays the judges were unanimous in their decisions.
The winner outright was Market Garden produce in the Turban Centre for their imaginative display of a dining table laden with fruit and vegetables and four place settings for a splendid Christmas lunch. The judges were impressed with the originality of the display and the fact that almost everyone that walked past stopped to have a good look and ask questions such as "When does Santa arrive?"
Claire Smith led the team that put the display together and was thrilled that they had won. Claire said " We are thrilled to win this prize, we all worked on it together and it has attracted lots of comments from customers and passers by."
The second prize was awarded to Barretts, home furnishers on the Thoroughfare, for their very pleasing window displays framed by the windows but leading the eye into the Aladdin's cave of Christmas goods inside the store. There was something to attract everyone's attention from children to adults. Frangipani Coffee House sponsor the second prize, so Barretts staff will be enjoying a Frangipani chocolate fudge cake.
Third prize was awarded to newcomer to the town, Chenevix Jewellery, on Market Hill for a charming display based on the theme of a partridge in a pear tree and giving a range of alternative presents if you can't find a partridge or a pear tree! the snow flake lighting effect when it gets dark was much admired.
