Winners of a poster competition designed to tackle parking issues at Woodbridge Primary School were announced in the school assembly on Monday 9th November.

The competition was organised by the Woodbridge and District Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) and the winning designs from each year group will be displayed prominently around the school. Local businesses WH Smith, Budgens, Tesco and the Young Browsers Bookshop have provided assorted prizes for the children.

Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Amy Cowan says, "Woodbridge Primary is a big school with very little space on the streets outside to park on. Too many cars can obstruct the view of both other drivers and pedestrians, which is extremely dangerous when small children are in the area. Now that the afternoons are darker, it’s even more important to take sensible precautions.

"The children have been really excited to show their creative sides with the Park Safe poster competition and it was tricky to pick some of the winners! We’re trying to encourage people to park down the road... If people could walk just a little further, then the school run can be much safer for everyone.

Head Teacher Mark Krisson adds, "The competition was primarily at the instigation of our PCSO Amy Cowan. It’s vitally important that we engage with the children and let them express their own concerns about issues such as this and it also helps to define the responsibilities of adults.

"We’re obviously concerned about our neighbours’ quality of life as well as the safety of the children at all times during their school day. We hope that getting everyone to consider parking safety will make getting to and from school safer for everyone and could even reduce car use if local children feel more comfortable walking and cycling instead."
