Woodbridge Rugby Club
12th October 2009
Over 1000 players, supporters, friends and families attended the day generously sponsored by M R King & Sons, with youth development squads from all over the region competing in a full programme of matches.

Andrew Wilkinson of Sudbury Rugby Club summed up reaction to Woodbridge Rugby Club‘s ambitious Development Festival for Under 9‘s to under 12‘s on Sunday 11th October…..“we thought that it was an excellent festival that was very well organised, and highly enjoyable. I thought that each team entered into the spirit of the day, and I watched and refereed some excellent rugby".
After some hard-fought games, Southwold beat Woodbridge in the finals of the U12s, Sudbury beat Colchester in the U11s but Colchester’s U10s beat the ’Barbarians’ and Newmarket beat Hadleigh to win the U9s.

Gordon Puckey, visiting parent from Colchester and whose son Zac scored the winning try in the Colchester U10s victory, commented “a well run festival with some great sport. I can’t think of a better way to encourage and develop young players and bring newcomers to the sport”.
Karen Debenham, the unflappable Festival organiser, added “The club really raised its game for this day and I’m indebted to my colleagues, coaches, seniors, the sponsor, St John’s Ambulance and all the helpers for making it a safe and organised fun festival. I fear this will become a regular fixture!“
Woodbridge Rugby Club has an extensive Youth section with a growing membership of some 300 boys and girls. Its successful appeal to youngsters comes not only from the growing appeal of the game but also from its full schedule of fixtures and other events organised by a tireless group of parents and RFU qualified and CRB checked coaches.
