Woodbridge Town Centre Management Ltd
9 October 2009
Woodbridge has scored a notable double in the Suffolk Food and Drink Awards with two town centre businesses winning their categories.
The Cake Shop, situated on the town’s busy Thoroughfare won Best Baker.
The Wild Strawberry Café on Market Hill won Best Tea/Coffee Shop.
The Cake Shop is celebrating victory for an incredible third consecutive year. The family-owned business prides itself on its traditional hand-baked products free from additives and preservatives. Shop Manager Simon Dodwell puts their success down to their tasty specialities including the famous Suffolk Trencher bread - and a tempting range of cakes. The Cake Shop supplies many local businesses, including Best Tea/Coffee Shop Winner, The Wild Strawberry Café.
When sisters Isobel McGovern and Suzy Sledmere took over the Wild Strawberry in February 2008, they set out to create a cheerful, modern café. Isobel commented "We’re absolutely delighted to win this award. We have fantastic, friendly staff and we use local ingredients to create a fresh and exciting menu. This award recognises a lot of hard work over the last eighteen months."
The Wild Strawberry Café is also a regional finalist in The Good Food Channel’s Market Kitchen Local Food Hero 2009, with results expected in November.
Woodbridge town centre is still seeing strong trading despite the economic conditions. Marion Wells, Woodbridge Town Centre co-ordinator said “Woodbridge is an exceptional place for a really good shopping experience with many independent businesses taking a real pride in what they do. These awards demonstrate the range on offer in Woodbridge, from traditional to contemporary. Both businesses have done tremendously well to win these awards. Congratulations to them and all their staff".
