Club invests further in development of it’s strong youth section.Woodbridge Rugby Club (WRUFC) will invest further to develop it’s strong youth section.

Woodbridge Rugby Club, home of the Amazons women's and Warriors men’s teams, is launching its Youth Academy to provide enhanced rugby coaching and lifestyle education to the most talented U13-U17 players at the Club.

This is a timely initiative as WRUFC has an extensive Youth section, with a growing membership of 300 boys and girls. Its successful appeal to youngsters comes not only from the growing appeal of the game but also from its full schedule of fixtures and other events organised by a tireless group of parents and RFU qualified and CRB checked coaches.

The Academy will provide enhanced and extra coaching sessions to build an understanding of game-plays, tactics and knowledge of the laws. This will measure and improve fitness, strength and general conditioning, and also lead to an increase in game sense and rugby knowledge.

Students will also gain an element of lifestyle education such as nutrition and diet, injury management, sports physiology and mental training, in sessions where parents are also invited.

All youth players will benefit as Academy members share knowledge within their year groups and act as role models. Academy co-ordinator Jerry Bodkin adds “this helps us support the long term athletic development of talent and build a sustainable pool of high quality players for the senior teams and beyond. It will also support the development of our coaches and make WRUFC yet more attractive to young players”
