The Woodbridge open-top bus is back for the summer holidays. This popular service starts in Ipswich before arriving in Woodbridge. The circular trips include stops in the shopping areas and visits to historic sights.
There are 14 stops in and around Woodbridge, Melton and Sutton Hoo (National Trust). Bus tickets last all day and people can hop on and off as they please. For shoppers, there’s Market Hill square or the lively Thoroughfare with boutiques, bookshops, art galleries, cafés and more. Culture-lovers can visit Buttrum’s windmill, the waterfront Tide Mill, the museums on Market Hill or the famous Anglo-Saxon site at Sutton Hoo. If there’s too much to fit into one day, you may be tempted to come back for another visit.
Marion Wells, town centre co-ordinator commented “I’m delighted to see the open-top bus return for a third summer. Every year it becomes more popular and by the end of August around 1,000 people will have been on board – and they’ll have seen spectacular views over Woodbridge.”
The bus runs every Thursday and Saturday from 18 July to 29 August (inclusive), leaving Ipswich at 9.45am, returning at 4.30pm. There are five circular trips around Woodbridge, with 14 stops including the railway station, town centre, Market Hill, Notcutt’s, the waterfront, Melton and Sutton Hoo. The first trip leaves the railway station at 10.30am, the last finishes at the station at 3.50pm before returning to Ipswich.
All day tickets with unlimited usage are priced at: Family £12, Adult £5, Child £3 (or local fare for two stops £2.60).
A number of local businesses and organisations are involved in this popular project. The bus is organised by Woodbridge Town Centre Management Ltd with sponsorship from East Suffolk Community Rail Partnership, East Suffolk Travellers’ Association, The National Trust (Sutton Hoo) and Woodbridge Community Council.
