Lime Kiln Quay threat: Quayside Mill - 9 houses, 27-36 bedrooms, just 6 parking spaces?

3 February 2009

Local business woman Penny Moon lives close to the River Deben and works even closer to it (see this picture of her office at high tide!). Penny wants to raise awareness of her concerns about the possibility of inappropriate development in a sensitive area of riverside Woodbridge. She has written a notice to spread the word, which is copied below.

"The future of the riverside and its wildlife and the value of our homes could be at stake, and the destruction of Woodbridge continues ….

Sites submitted to Suffolk Coastal District Council (SCDC) for consideration for future development include Lime Kiln Quay as a “site proposed for light industrial or mixed use development”.  This could mean a couple of small business units to cover the light industrial employment side of things and then the rest could be houses, houses everywhere with not a thought about waste water, sewage, parking, the risk of flooding and the impact on the environment.

SCDC has neither endorsed or rejected this site at this stage but we can not sit back and hope that they will automatically reject the proposals because of the Natural Environment Issues in the area - Protected Species (22m), Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Special Protection Area, Ramsar, Site of Special Scientific Interest, Conservation Area.

The Council must be made aware of the sensitiveness of this site and that development of any shape or form can not be allowed at Lime Kiln Quay.

Full details can be found on the Suffolk Coastal website (Click here for SCDC PDF file of the plans) where you can also give your views via the how give us your views link…

The deadline is 20th February 2009 so don’t delay!

If you have access to the internet, please regularly check the planning applications on the SCDC website

For example: Did you know that plans for the re-development of Quayside Mill on Quayside have been submitted for 9 x 3 to 4 bedroom houses with just 6 parking spaces?
