Woodbridge's third annual Free Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday 7th April was this year (2007) transformed into a major celebration of the arrival of Spring, when more than 2,000 children and parents thronged Elmhurst Park. The main attraction, as ever, was the hunt, and the kids were rewarded with not far short of 500 eggs, provided by Budgens, Boots and Chocolats Belges.
This year, when they had found their eggs, they were able to enjoy a variety of new attractions associated with Spring, none more appropriate than a clutch of fluffy three-day-old chicks from Jimmy’s Farm.
However, the favourite was probably a Suffolk Punch mare with her new foal, Tanzi, born only on 8 February. But even Tanzi faced some stiff competition from a herd of soft and gentle alpacas (some very young) from Paul Rylott's Melford Green Alpacas Farm.
And if that wasn't enough, Diane's Thumper Rabbit Rescue organisation had brought rabbits for the children to handle, and eventually adopt.
Woodbridge in Bloom had an ‘Eat Healthy’ exhibit, and the town’s girl Guides gave a helping hand.
It was an experience for the kids to remember, and as a bonus there were hundreds of goody bags containing, among other things, vouchers for visits to Sutton Hoo and Easton Farm Park, and colouring-in books given by Woolworths
.
We couldn't have had better weather - successful hunters queue for their eggs.
The Woodbridge Spring Festival was organized by the Woodbridge Town Centre Management Group and sponsored by Budgens, Boots, Easton Farm Park, Les Chocolats Belges, The National Trust, the Suffolk Punch Trust, Woolworths and Woodbridge Town Council.
