RENOVATION OF THE SHIRE HALL

As your Town Mayor for 2004/5 it gives me great pleasure to see the restoration work on the Shire Hall now complete. Congratulations must go to the Contractors and Staff for their excellent work. The very generous gifts of £18,000 from the Woodbridge Community Council and many other numerous donations will be a great help towards the costs that have to be found. Our thanks must go to Councillor Cliff Cocker for refurbishing the Seckford Crests.

We were fully aware that parking has been difficult on the Market Hill whilst the works were ongoing especially for those in business and we can but only apologise for this but I am sure you will agree the results of the restoration works are splendid.

THANK YOU

Thanks must go to the Woodbridge in Bloom Committee who achieved sponsorship of the Hanging Baskets which greatly enhance our Town. Lets hope their efforts are rewarded in this year’s Anglia in Bloom Judging which takes place at the end of July.

My thanks must also go to the British Legion for their part in the organisation of the D Day Service in Elmhurst Park on Sunday 6th June. Followed by an excellent concert in the Community Hall that evening, given by the Excelsior Band.

Elmhurst Park

This Park is the Jewel of the Town where you can play, relax or just admire the beautiful grounds. Last year we were given the Green Flag Award for the 2nd year running and just recently the judges have again viewed the Park and surroundings. We hope to be able to regain the Award this year. Credit must go to Mr Lee Nunn, Parks Manager and his assistant Mr Tony Tate for their efforts.

During the Summer musical events are regularly held in the Park which have just recently included Farlingaye and Debenham High School bands playing together. All these events are attributed to Councillor Katherine Bryant to whom we are most grateful.

KINGSTON FIELD

Woodbridge Town Council in partnership with the Market Towns Initiative and Suffolk Coastal District Council has already provided an all-weather pitch which is well used. We are now looking to improve Kingston Field further by adding to the Play Area and Sports Field. These improvements will include a Basket Ball Court and Artificial Cricket Square.

Another feature on Kingston Field is the Pavilion which is to be used as a Tea Room. Opening Times will be from March to September 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and from October to February 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Picnic in the Park

The 3rd annual Picnic in the Park event took place on Sunday 13th June 2004 on a glorious day in Elmhurst Park. This years event again proved a great success and attracted a large crowd. My thanks must go to those who provided and ran stalls, sideshows and displays. Also to the Woodbridge & Melton Churches Together for arranging the “Praise in the Park” event in the evening.
